WAR DIARY 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment 1918 The Line, Cachy April 23 Were intermittently shelled throughout the day. Gas being used. 24 Enemy attacked after a 4 hour’s bombardment lasting from 4 am to 8 am. B and D Co.’s went forward from CACHY and took up a position north of CACHY. 9 am The enemy attacked and regained our forward line but owing to the retirement of the Battn on the right (R. W. K. S) we withdrew our line to the CACHY SWITCH. 6.30 pm Fairly quiet throughout the day. Intermittent shelling. A considerable bombardment commenced on the CACHY SWITCH the S.O.S. was sent up and our artillery replied. All action died down by 7.15 pm and no attack took place. 25 5.00 am Relieved by a Battn of Moroccan troops - relief
